Nine confirms Footy Show cast

Just two Footy Show faces survive Nine's revamp, with Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann taking on the role once held by Eddie McGuire.

Nine has confirmed cast for its revamped AFL Footy Show, following from recent media rumours.

Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann is “ringmaster” of the new-look panel. Joining him is FOX Footy journalist Neroli Meadows, plus Brendan Fevola, and Paralympian Dylan Alcott.

Shane Crawford, one of only two regulars to survive the revamp, returns to visit local clubs and community groups. With a heavy entertainment focus, the show is executive produced by Anthony Watts (Spicks & Specks) for Eddie McGuire-owned JAM TV. Both Lehmann and Alcott were part of ABC’s Invictus Games coverage produced by the same company.

A Nine release notes, “For 25 years The Footy Show has been a trailblazer, setting the benchmark to which others have aspired. At its core, it’s a celebration of our country’s great national game. ”

Lehmo adds, “The Footy Show is an institution and it’s a great honour to be taking the hosting chair. As a passionate footy fan, I’m itching for the season to start and can’t wait to work with this incredible lineup. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

The Footy Show will go head to head with Seven’s upstart The Front Bar with an expectation that former Footy Show stalwarts Eddie McGuire & Sam Newman will appear in specials through the year.

Each week the AFL’s biggest legends and rising stars will join the re-energised show in an environment where they can engage with fans and give us a true insight into what makes them tick.

This week, 2018’s breakout star, Collingwood’s Mason Cox will be on the panel along with veteran Hawthorn player Shaun Burgoyne.

NRL champion Billy Slater will also pop in to chat about his new gig with St Kilda, where he is playing a pivotal role in their leadership and development programs.

Essendon premiership player and three-time Coleman Medallist Matthew Lloyd will bring his extensive football knowledge as he previews all the Round One action.

Superband ARC, comprising Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton, Jet’s Mark Wilson, You Am I’s Davey Lane and Spiderbait’s Kram, will perform for viewers ahead of their upcoming Abbey Road Tribute Tour.

9pm Wednesday on Nine.

  1. Sorry but this will end up just like Today. Poor casting. The only one that has currency is Fev. Lehmo does not connect with the viewer, laughs at his own jokes. The Front bar is on a roll and will win out.

  2. I’ll probably check this out now as I do like Neroli Meadows, but I still dont think this show will last. I’ll record this. I’ll definitely be watching The Front Bar first.

  3. Look they had to do something. I like the new faces and Neroli is brilliant, but does this mean she has left Foxtel or is she still doing all her work over there still? Lehmo just knows everything about footy and Dylan obliviously knows his stuff as well.

Surprisingly I enjoyed Fev last year, I found he spoke a lot of sense and was good to listen to.

I do like Shane and what he has done for charity is amazing but he for me was one of the annoying ones on the show. Maybe with no Sam there he will be ok but I always found when they were talking about a team or a game he’d just do something stupid and they would get off track.

  4. Hey David, when you say the show will go head to head with the Front Bar, do you judt mean this week? Because I heard The Footy Show would be airing on Wednesday nights all throughout the year.

    1. Lehmo did co-host Ten’s Before the Game for a decade. So he has some experience hosting a “footy show”. Not sure about Dylan Alcott though.

Good luck to all these new hosts of the show

    2. Brude McAvaney never played a game and yet knows more about football then most if not all of us. Just goes to show you don’t need to play the game, to be an expert.

  5. Always watched the Footy Show more out of habit than anything in the last couple of years. Now I just have to decide if I’ll continue watching it or switch to The Front Bar. A tough choice….
