RIP Peter Bowles – To the Manor Born is one of my all time favourite series going back to early childhood. I just finished another rewatch – so well written and funny. So many favourite lines but ‘dirty Burty’ always cracks me up
Another great character actor passes. Thanks for letting us know TVTonight.
Loved that show and the man…have to admit all I knew him for…he played that part so well…Respect 🙏
To the manor born is very much in the top quality category of British understated humour and, to this day, has one of my favourite lines of all time when Audrey braves the train (perhaps for the first time ever as she adapts to not having money) and asks the ticket seller for “a return ticket please” to which he replies “where to ‘mam?”; Audrey perplexed responds “to back here of course”.
My favourite line was ‘The blanket is meant for the flowers Marjory, not you’. It was when Richard DeVere had a helicopter and it flew over her cottage. I am even laughing as I write this. So many great lines.
Oh no! I adored “To The Manor Born” So sad to read. Sending love & condolences to family, friends and fans.
RIP Peter. Absolutely loved watching To The Manor Born with my parents growing up. We could watch it over and over. Might have to watch it on the weekend in his memory.
Yes, such a British classic
I too have fond memories of watching this with my family too.
RIP Peter
