Kylie, Jason film reunion for Neighbours finale.

Updated: Now confirmed by the show, is this the next best thing for nostalgic soapie fans?

It sounds like the fantasy ending fans had hoped for….

Soapie heartthrobs Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan have reunited for a Neighbours cameo, the Sunday Herald Sun reports.

Minogue and Jason Donovan have secretly reprised their iconic roles as Charlene Mitchell and Scott Robinson, filming their guest appearance on the show at Pin Oak Court in Vermont South late last week.

Their reunion will feature as part of the final episode of the show. When previously asked about securing Kylie Minogue to return, Executive Producer Jason Herbison told TV Tonight “I’m doing everything you’d expect me to be doing!” but added, ” I feel very strongly that the end must equally be a celebration of the current cast. Karl, Susan, Toadie and Paul have earned a very rightful place, front and centre.”

Neighbours will cease production on June 10, after 37 years, and screen on 7:30pm Thursday July 28 on 10 / 10 Peach.

Updated: Both stars have taken to Instagram….

Neighbours official tweet: “”Scott and Charlene are the ultimate Neighbours couple and it would not feel right to end the show without them. We are thrilled that Jason and Kylie have come home to play a very special part in our series finale…”

  1. It’s so exciting. But I also hope it’s more than just a cameo. Can we hope that ten puts neighbours back on the main channel? The show doesn’t even get a next day rerun on Peach, let alone the main channel. It shows how much they value the show, they can’t clear a slot for an umpteenth repeat of Friends to show a single rerun of neighbours.

    1. They show the entire week’s episodes again on a Sunday morning (it used to be Sunday afternoon, but they changed the timing many years ago). It’s not the next day, granted, but it follows the UK’s tradition of the “omnibus” edition (i.e. showing a week’s block of episodes one after the other to allow people to catch up with what they’ve missed).

  2. This is great news but I agree that the other characters also need to get plenty of attention and Ten need to show this on their main channel. I don’t know what they’re thinking putting it on Eleven, it just will not rate as well because many former watchers & old fans may simply forget the finale is on with no lead in shows etc.

  3. I wish they would hurry up with the catch up to the UK broadcast, I cannot seem to avoid spoilers.
I don’t understand why they announced it in April (that they plan to catch up), but we have to wait until June to begin the catch up. It reminds me when Bart Simspon was in the slow learners class “Let me get this straight: we’re behind the rest of our class and we’re going to catch up to them by going slower than they are?”

  4. A few things need to happen in this space to appease Australian fans. Kylie and Jason certainly bring the buzz for a big finale.
Firstly catching up the broadcast so you’re not hearing about what happened because it’s going to air in the UK first under the current broadcast situation.
Second it needs to be back on the main channel for the last few weeks and if I was Ten I’d give it a Sunday night prime time 90 minute send off at 7.00pm followed by a nostalgia special afterwards. Although Australian viewers haven’t been watching in droves for years, it’s a easy bet everyone is coming back for the finale.
The flip side to these requests I suppose is Australian audience haven’t been loyal to the program for the last decade, totally reliant on a UK deal to remain on air so it’s a big ask for Ten to do anything other then let it fade out on Peach.

    1. “…because it’s going to air in the UK first under the current broadcast situation”…
      .
With the final episode airing on Monday, 1 August in both Australia and the UK, it will be seen in Australia first given the 9 hour time difference.

    2. It’s already been confirmed that Peach will be airing the show in one hour blocks at some stage fairly soon, so that they can catch up to the UK. The finale will air on the evening of August 1st in Australia and then about 4 or 5 hours later in the UK, so minimal chance for spoilers for the UK audience. It will finish in Australia before it does in the UK, which is how it should be.

  5. The rumours going around. In the final scene, they drive up Ramsey street, get out of the car and say, welcome home. Then the credits roll.

  6. Would be good to see others involved too for something from that time. Perhaps Guy Pearce? Maybe even Craig Mclachlan?

Then later there’s Natalie Imbruglia, Jesse Spencer, Margot Robbie, etc. Perhaps others too who were important characters on Neighbours but haven’t been seen for a while. Whatever happened to Lou Carpenter (Tom Oliver), I wonder.

  7. This is exciting and such fabulous news! It must have brought back some wonderful memories for Kylie and Jason to film it. They were both responsible for the runaway hit and essential viewing the show became in the early days. Ratings Gold and Channel 10 absolutely have to play this on the main channel. I’m guessing it’s got something to do with Scott and Charlene driving back into Ramsay St from Queensland, the reverse of how we saw them leave, but who knows. Can not wait to see and will be a lovely nostalgic full stop to such an enduring an iconic show.

  8. It will be a travesty if Ten do not allow this show to be farewelled on the main channel. They should air across all channels simultaneously and air a special tribute show looking back on its legacy. I am sure The Project can be rested for a night!

  9. This is just the most amazing news ever for us long term fans – I never thought this would ever happen.
I will be a complete mess when the final episodes air – surely 10 have to put the final week on the main channel, ratings will go through the roof.

  10. If true, i do hope its no more than just a cameo. And long standing characters like Karl, Susan, Toadie and Paul have some equal celebration (as the article says) in the final episode(s). And the final airs in exactly 3 months time (1 August). Yikes. Not that long to go now 🙁
