Legendary Marcia Hines is returning to Australian Idol as a guest judge when the series premieres in 2023.
Hines was an original judge from 2003 to 2009, famously offering support to aspiring singers, most notably alongside Ian “Dicko” Dickson and Mark Holden.
“I feel honoured to have been asked to come back. Australian Idol is a great vehicle for uncovering some fantastic Australian talent. What a ride!” she said.
“I know it’s not an easy task singing in front of strangers, but I hope that contestants show us their heart and the gift that is their voice.”
Seven’s judges for 2023 are Kyle Sandilands, Meghan Trainor, Harry Connick Jr. and Amy Shark.

Apparently Marcia will be a guest judge on the top 50 show to be held this Wednesday (October 26) at Coliseum Theatre in Rooty Hill in Sydney. She will be filling in for Meghan Trainor, who has flown home to the US to promote her latest album Takin’ It Back (released last week).
Looking forward to Karl Sandilands, he is very entertaining.
Oh dear Dicko next.?
Damage control.
This makes me so happy that she will be involved again!! I would have had her on the panel full-time…
Great get by Seven, Marcia was brilliant on the original.
What a shame that she we won’t be on the show full time. She was a warm and calming presence that countered Dicko’s bluntness (as much as I appreciated it) and Holden’s… eccentricities. 😅 The three of them were an unlikely trio, but it worked (and who didn’t love Dicko and Marcia’s occasional bickering?).
Seeing Sandilands’ name on the marquee again though reinforces why I won’t be watching the reboot. How can the audience be expected to take the show seriously if the producers/network won’t? Sandilands single-handedly killed my interest in the show the first time with his lack of substance and industry expertise, and they’re repeating history by reintroducing Aussie Idol’s answer to The Great Gazoo (or Scrappy-Doo).
