Airdate: Women’s Super League 2023-24

Matildas players are back in action for UK football league screening on Optus Sport.

Optus Sport will screen the Women’s Super League Live from Sunday.

These teams include members from the Matildas.

“Now with many Matildas returning to domestic action in England, we’re expecting interest in women’s football to continue to rise throughout the Barclays Women’s Super League season with what promises to be the best season yet.”

Step Catley, Arsenal FC player and Optus ambassador, said, “Watching the nation get behind the Matildas during our run in the Women’s World Cup was incredible.

“When I was young, none of it was possible and now we’re seeing this generation of young girls and boys cheer on the team and that’s been so inspiring.

“Now fans across the country can get behind many of the superstars that lit up the Women’s World Cup in the new season of the Women’s Super League with every round live on Optus Sport.”

Optus Sport continues its long-standing support of women’s football with coverage of every round of the Barclays Women’s Super League.

After capturing the nation’s hearts and imagination during the recent Women’s World Cup, which saw strong viewing records and unprecedented interest in the women’s game, several Matildas squad members return to action this weekend for their respective teams in the Barclays Women’s Super League, which kicks off on 1 October – with every round live only on Optus Sport.

Aston Villa are taking on Manchester United in the first game of the new WSL season: Kick-off is 10:30pm Sunday AEDT (Australian Eastern Daylight Time).

Currently there are 10 members of the Matildas World Cup squad playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League:

Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley and Kyra Cooney-Cross for Arsenal FC
Teagan Micah for Liverpool FC
Mackenzie Arnold for West Ham United
Courtney Nevin for Leicester City
Clare Wheeler for Everton FC
Alanna Kennedy and Mary Fowler for Manchester City

All eyes will be on superstar Sam Kerr and her Chelsea team kicking off their title defence at home to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who Chelsea defeated home and away last season on their way to securing the title, pipping Manchester United by just two points.

As well as live coverage of every round in the Barclays Women’s Super League, Optus Sport customers can enjoy Mini Matches, previews, news stories, and dedicated new highlights show, Women’s Football Wrap, which will provide viewers with a weekly wrap-up that recaps the best of the action, reaction and results in women’s football.
