Victoria behind new Ted prequel series

More than 150 staff at Melbourne-based VFX studio, Framestore worked across new prequel series.

New ‘event series’ Ted, from creator Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), will screen in January.

Melbourne-based VFX studio, Framestore, originally created the digital character for the first and second Ted films.

Ted is the largest package of VFX work ever attracted to Victoria, injecting up to $22 million into the Victorian economy, creating 156 local jobs at Framestore, where the team worked on the series for over a year.

In addition to MacFarlane, the series also stars Max Burkholder (Parenthood), Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Scott Grimes (American Dad!) and Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher).

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Grimes and Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

Seth MacFarlane serves as executive producer, writer, director, co-showrunner and “Ted.” Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh serve as executive producers, writers and co-showrunners The event series is also executive produced by Erica Huggins, Alana Kleinman, Jason Clark and Aimee Carlson (Fuzzy Door Productions). Ted is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door and MRC.

All episodes Thursday January 11 on Binge / 8.30pm on FOX8.

  1. I bought the DVDs and my late father would get me to regularly play them…two weeks before he passed away at 102 years old he got me to play them again several times..he laughed so much the joy he got from watching both movies bought tears to my eyes..I lost count of how many times he asked me to rewind Ted driving while smoking…(he reckoned it was better than John Candy in Planes Trains and Automobiles doing the same thing) when Ted and John found the “stash” growing in the paddock…Ted and Jamie Lyn fighting with Ted hanging out the window telling the street off….I will definitely watch but will be sad too my father won’t get to see one of his favourites characters…Ted was a hero according to my father. 😂
