Happy New Year and welcome to 2024.
Hope you had a great night and safe time, may the year ahead be prosperous for you and full of great telly.
After the strikes of 2023, we may be without favourite shows for quite some time, including into 2025 for some.
But new & returning content this month across your Free to Air and Streaming platforms includes McCartney 321, Planet Lulin, The Tourist, Changing Ends, Grand Designs Transformations, Foe, Home & Away, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness, Boy Swallows Universe, Ted, The Gilded Age, Muster Dogs, Total Control, True Detective, Gladiators, Prosper, Griselda, Masters of the Air, Australian Idol, and Married at First Sight.
Awards season is also upon us with the Golden Globes, the postponed Emmy Awards, Grammys, AACTA Awards and later AWGIES, SAG and Oscar ceremonies.
2024 will begin a new chapter in television ratings with VOZ set to become the new standard in measurement. This will see numbers lift for television shows to include BVOD instead of just overnight linear numbers. It isn’t clear yet when it begins or precisely how it will translate on a daily basis, but it should better reflect the way we are all watching.
Seven will get its new CEO Jeff Howard, Foxtel will launch Hubbl screens and pucks, Nine is off to the Olympics in July, Shaun Micallef is back on ABC, SBS takes Alone Australia to New Zealand and 10 sends Robert Irwin into the jungle.
There will also be new local content requirements of Streaming platforms but the finer detail is yet to be announced -Prime Video will also be introducing ads.
This week marks another chapter in the life of the blog (more on that soon) and winners in the TV Tonight Awards will be announced next week.
Site Hiatus continues for a few more weeks as posts quietly increase, and another reminder you can hear me discussing 2023 TV highlights in the TV Gold podcast with James Manning and Andrew Mercado.

Happy New Year 🎉🥳 DK , shame Amazon Prime will have ads I think it’s about $3USD so maybe an extra $5 PM on top of the $79 we pay now. I await the VOZ ratings with interest.
Happy New Year David & everyone. A lot of rain & lightning here on the Gold Coast all night. Who needs fireworks?
