Former WIN TV studios in Ballarat for sale

Ballarat site on the market was once home to BTV6.

WIN TV’s former home in Walker St, Ballarat North is on the market.

WIN relocated to Wollongong in 2017 with advertising staff moving out of the building recently.

The site, which is almost 21,000 square metres in size, is the former home of television station BTV6 and would fit 8 house blocks, however the developer says a decision on whether the studios will remain or be demolished is still to be made.

  1. Nostalgic, a great station, where so many teams and programs actually came out of, even into modern era. But centralisation etc saw things shut up shop across Australia, which was doomed after regional aggregation 30 years ago anyway. Pretty sure Denis Walter and even Bruce Roberts for a bit were presenting out of here. As Knoxy notes, I’m sure local sales offices/staff are still based in major regional centres around the country, but even that’s probably nearing an end fast.

  2. So sad. For those who weren’t around to see ‘local’ regional television there’s a sampling at
    youtube.com/watch?v=ZFKFKVZQAFk&ab_channel=AustralianTelevisionArchive
From an era of regional television stations with helicopters and OB vans.

  3. In the early 1990s, Friday night AFL telecasts were delayed for metro Melbourne Channel 7 viewers but country TV stations could show the games live. Living in Melbourne, I bought a second TV antenna pointed towards Ballarat so I could watch (sometimes grainy) live footy on Friday night.
    So I’m grateful for BTV6.
