TV’s love affair with Quiz, Game shows.
There's no letting up of quiz and game shows in 2024, with every network turning out hit shows -even if they don't give away the cash.

Look at your TV -has there ever been so many Quiz and Game shows as now?
There are games of skill, of luck, with general knowledge, specialist subjects, adults, kids, with daytime, primetime and special episodes, screening across every Free to Air network.
Here are the recent and current titles in schedules….
The Chase
The Chase UK
The 1% Club
The 1% Club UK
Tipping Point
Tipping Point Australia
Tipping Point Australia specials
Hard Quiz
Hard Quiz Kids
Hard Quiz rpt
Deal or No Deal

Jeopardy Australia
Still to come are:
Deal or No Deal specials
Big Backyard Quiz

That’s not counting QI, The Hundred with Andy Lee, Have You Been Paying Attention?
There are so many you could watch multiple shows back to back on any given day.
Many of the quiz shows -all male-hosted- are especially popular with older viewers, and help drive audiences into primetime news.
Despite the flurry of activity, there is seemingly room for them all.
“Quiz shows have always been a TV staple and that is no different in 2024,” critic Colin Vickery tells TV Tonight.
“What we have seen in recent times is a surge in humorous quiz shows – particularly in prime time – and they have, for the most part, been successful.
“The early evening shows – The Chase, Tipping Point, Deal Or No Deal, – are the more traditional question-and-answer-for-prize-money format. Networks sometimes flirt with prime time specials for these but they never seem to quite connect in the same way.
“Are there too many? The success of newbies Tipping Point and The 1% Club suggests not. That doesn’t mean that they will all work. The misbegotten reboot of The Weakest Link was rightly shunned by viewers.
“I think the current spate of shows illustrates how flexible the genre is. Some have prizes, some don’t. Some are fast paced, some aren’t. Some tackle wide ranging news and current affairs, others specialised subjects. In some the host is a drawcard, and for others the format is king.
“As long as networks keep coming up with creative twists there seems to be plenty of life left in the genre.”

If this true why do so many great game/quiz shows only last a few years. Then they go off and undoubtedly after a time come back. As I’ve been saying for ages we need a proper game show network where all shows can stay on. Plus watch classic old shows like Blankety Blanks.
It will be interesting to see who picks up The Floor
I think you will find Nine confirms at Upfronts.
Oh wow I hadn’t realised (perhaps ignorantly) that they are all hosted by males. That’s actually amazing. How many female-led quiz shows have there been?
You could count Celia Paquola as host of Thank God You’re Here but that really isn’t a gameshow purse.
Chrissy Swan and Jane Kennedy both hosted a few episodes of Have You Been Paying Attention.
If repeats are included then 7Two have had Million Dollar Minute ad nauseam ever since dropping Home & Away’s early years from schedule. I enjoy game and quiz shows but just can’t get into 1% Club and Tipping Point.
Good that you have put a list of game shows on the page. It is very interesting to see the resurgence of game shows during the late 2010s-early 2020s.
A long time ago, we have seen SOTC on Nine at 7pm and it worked well. I was too young to remember this show, but I watch most eps via Youtube with Glenn Ridge as host. I’d like to see old episodes back on TV.
Let’s not forget the money. They’re cheap to make with the big prize rarely going off and prizes such as cars, cruises etc can be contra. Several eps can be filmed in a day and repeated without a significent drop in ratings. Might even qualify for local content. Win Win for the networks. Many TV panel games started their lives on radio. I can recall Madam Lash setting some questions on the ABC radio quiz, she would liven up a TV quiz.
Bring back Good News Week!
Surely password will get a run in Australia soon. It’s actually a lot of fun!
And I’m surprised no one has started a new price is right in Australia.
The last Price is Right reboot was ridiculously bom we the top with product placement it would have turned most viewers off.
I saw one episode and was mortified
Proudly sponsored by Big W. lol
Every prize came from Big W. It was a joke and embarrassing.
I saw that rebooted TPIR back in 2012 and never enjoyed it as it was super-cheap and had a sponsor with Big W. These prices look way too cheap and had a very small Nissan Micra.
Jeopardy Australia would have to be one of the biggest disappointments of years gone by. If anyone id a fan of American Jeopardy and tuned in they all had to be as disappointed as I was. It is steaming pile of sh*t….
Good to see a resurgence of game/quiz shows.
Am loving Jeopardy on SBS Viceland. I do enjoy The Chase UK and Aus, as too The 1% Club. I can’t seem to get into Tipping Point yet, but kudos for its ratings success.
If only Sale of the Century (aka Temptation) would return, and life would be complete.
Can any one explain why the set backgrounds of any game show or dancing or singing show is dark instead of bright sets we used to see on say Blankety Blanks, Sale of The Century and even music contests such as Pot of Gold.
Thanks
Tipping Point is the perfect storm of a great host, compelling gameplay and a master-class of ‘must watch’ promos
I’ve always loved quiz shows and playing along at home. The ones I watch are general knowledge ones as it really puts my brain power to the rest and I learn something every time (whether I remember them or not is another matter!).
Jeopardy! (US) is my favorite (episodes currently screen at 7:00 on SBS Viceland). The questions are often very difficult, which yields very smart contestants. I love to see smart people put their knowledge on show like that. I find it amazing that, night after night, they provide three really smart people – guess it helps that they have such a large population to draw from!
Don’t forget the original Jeopardy on SBS.
And 12 years of repeating Letters an Numbers.
Letters and.Numbers I tune in religiously every weeknight
