Journalist Janine Perrett will guest host Media Watch for a third stint in September whilst Paul Barry takes leave.
Sydney Morning Herald reports she will fill in for three episodes from September 16.
Perrett previously hosted on separate ocasions in August 2021 ande May 2022 to a positive response.
But she does not regard the hosting as any kind of audition to become Barry’s permanent replacement in 2025.
“What happens next year is not something I am worrying about or focusing on. I’m really chuffed to get a chance because I love the program,” she told SMH.
Barry had his leave booked at the top of the year and sources suggest there is currently no front runner for the role having emerged.
Nevertheless, the rumour mill continues on ABC’s long term plans with press speculation so far having named Justice Michael Lee, former editor of The Age, Gay Alcorn, The Sydney Morning Herald’s chief investigative reporter, Kate McClymont, and former Four Corners and 7.30 executive producer Sally Neighbour.
Media Watch is also looking for a new executive producer, with Tim Latham also leaving at the end of the year.

Murdoch writers are willing to provide creative input into the show as a co-production with the ABC – like they have done on various 4 Corners stories in recent years.
Alan Jones is probably free on Monday Nights –
and John Laws is overdue for a TV return.
