2 million viewers watch Jannik Sinner win AO Men’s Final

Nine dominated viewing with a huge share on Sunday night.

2 million viewers watched Italian Jannik Sinner defeat Germany’s Alexander Zverev to take out the 2025 Australian Open title.

Nine dominated the night with a huge 47% share, more than twice its nearest competitor, Seven.

The numbers were down slightly on 2024’s 2.12m when Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in the Men’s Final.

Facing stiff competition 10’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here threw Sigrid Thornton into the jungle, averaging 554,000 viewers. Nevertheless, it was still the top entertainment drawcard for the night.

Seven News led in news at 1.18m to Nine News 995,000.

  1. While I applaud 9Now/Stan for live stream of Deaf, Disability Intellectual and Junior Wheelchair champs, This years tournament was quite average compared to last year, with some on-air incidents. Not just that but some players having to retire during the match following an injury. Despite starting the tournament off with rain falling on day 1, everything cleared up in Melbourne. We have seen some upsets from unseeded players like Learner Tien beating the 7th seed Medvedev.
I watched the Men’s Singles Final and after the completion of 1st set, I turned to AUS Day Live on ABC. I predicted that it will be a straight sets win for Sinner.

  2. On Saturday they didn’t show the pre game stuff before the women’s final & last night they failed to show bits to.

I don’t think 9 have had the best week with some of their decisions

  3. Such a shame the way the world works. The women’s final deserved to be higher rated than this mens match.
Madison Keys you made the tournament an unmissable one with your play in the semifinals and finals. Massive congrats.

  4. What are we going to do now without the tennis! In all seriousness, another great tournament, despite some (seems typical now) ‘incidents’ and unwanted global attention, as well as some big upsets, Aussies bowing out despite a brilliant and first time QF run by Demon and Joker calling it quits. While it started off weak with rain on Day 1, first few days down and no Jim Courier amidst LA Fires, things turned around later in week 1 and week 2 was up, as well as some good finals and memorable women’s final. Nine would be happy with last night’s men’s final, pretty incredible figures even though it became one-sided and straight sets and comparatively earlier finish. No doubt advertisers are popping corks at that mass reach and Nine top brass too with all eyes locked onto tonight. Plus I’m sure bragging rights over Seven to start 2025, with No. 1 program, beating cricket and in the traditional metro metrics are probably leading that now, especially those lucrative younger age brackets (16-39s wow!)

    1. I agree I expect nine are happy. I also agree with comments from the past that seven were sloppy / complacent/ stupid to allow nine to nab the tennis. That said, seven would be happy with the crickets numbers. The nightly numbers are lower but there are more hours of cricket. Again, if seven could have a do-over, they’d keep the tennis but that’s not an option – given a very bumpy start with CA, seven would feel reasonably good about this summer (and the Ashes next summer to come).

  5. The national anthem sung by Beau Woodbridge (Todd’s son), before the men’s final, was the best ever rendition I have heard. If you didn’t catch it you can see the performance on youtube.
