New Foxtel drama Secret City averaged 80,000 viewers on Showcase last night, as the top rated non-Sports show on Subscription TV.
The figure appears to be an average of its double episode premiere (and arguably might have been higher if it were coded as 2 episodes). It is also the number of the first, Live broadcast only -STV prefers to look at overall audience numbers which include subsequent replays and timeshifted on the IQ.
Showcase is also not a channel available on basic tiers -although that hasn’t stopped the phenomenon of Game of Thrones enjoying around 300,000 in Overnight numbers.
By contrast SoHo’s Wentworth is sitting at around 80,000 – 100,000 recently.
On social media last night Secret City drew plenty of acclaim from those who viewed, along with solid reviews from critics.

Watched SC last night. I thought it was excellent ..
Canberra looked great as a back drop.
I very much enjoyed it and will be back for more.
Pretty good numbers, but they shouldn’t be concerned about the overnight figure for a series designed to retain or increase drama subscribers.
Found it to be a bit of a snore fest. Will hopefully pick up ep 2.
