Collectors host on child porn charge

Australian Federal Police have charged Collectors' host Andy Muirhead with one count of using the internet to access child pornography.

Andy Muirhead, the host of the ABC’s Collectors program, has been charged with a child pornography offence.

Australian Federal Police has confirmed computer equipment was seized from the 34-year-old’s home in Hobart during a search on Tuesday.

He has been charged with one count of using the internet to access child pornography. He is yet to appear in court.

An ABC corporate spokeswoman said, “The ABC was notified late yesterday by his management that Andy Muirhead had been charged with a serious offence.

“Mr Muirhead will not present the Collectors on ABC TV or the breakfast program on ABC Local Radio in Tasmania pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. The Collectors program will be off air until further notice. Mr Muirhead has taken leave and will not be paid.

“This is all the information the ABC has on the matter and we have no further comment.”

ABC has also removed content from its Collectors website.

Muirhead will appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on August 2nd.
