Top Model’s top copyright feud

An Escort Agency owner whose company logo is the centre of a copyright dispute with Foxtel says he had the branding first.

An Escort Agency owner whose company logo is the centre of a copyright dispute with Foxtel says he had the branding first.

James Anderson, who owns and runs Top Model escort agency, says “We ran the ad in the 2005 Yellow Pages and it’s almost identical to the one that is being used today,” he said.

“We had it first — they should have done more research before naming a TV show after an escort agency.”

The Top Model logo bears similar typeface and shading as that used in Australia’s Next Top Model.

ANTM‘s branding has been used since its first cycle in 2005, when hosted by Erika Heynatz (pictured).

It is of course, based on that of America’s Next Top Model, which premiered in 2003.

Anderson said he “couldn’t remember” if he had seen that show’s logo.

A Foxtel spokeswoman said: “Using the popularity of our program in an attempt to align it with this establishment is completely inappropriate.”

  1. I think copyright over the top model logo is the least of their concerns- hint major spoiler alert with the top 5 published

  2. I’ve heard of copyright for photos and lyrics, etc.. But when it comes to trying to copyright a logo which is simply words, that just becomes overboard. At least in the instances of McDonald’s and the golden arches, the M is actually from a font that you will not find in Microsoft Word. What’s next? Sports teams copyrighting the colours of their jerseys? That’s just ridiculous in my opinion.
