Los Angeles police have confirmed they are conducting a criminal investigation into alleged threats made by actor Charlie Sheen.

Officers have served a search warrant in connection with the investigation, he said.

Whilst officers could not identify the alleged target of any threats, media reports speculate Sheen’s former fiancee, Scottine Ross, allegedly told police Sheen threatened her with violence.

In an alleged audio tape, Sheen can apparently be heard threatening to pay someone $20,000 to kill Ross.

In the midst of their bitter breakup, Ross sued Sheen, accusing him of abusing her mentally and physically and for negligently exposing her to HIV.

In 2009, Sheen was arrested on domestic abuse charges after he allegedly threatened to kill his then-wife Brooke Mueller.

Sheen recently starred in the comedy Anger Management.
