Lawyer charged over $10m bank transfer from WIN

Lawyer faces court over multi-million dollar transfers from WIN Corp & Bruce Gordon's company accounts to his own.

A Sydney lawyer has been charged with transferring nearly $10 million from WIN Corporation and Bruce Gordon’s company Birteku to his personal bank account.

The Australian Financial Review reports Brody Clarke, 35, allegedly transferred $7.3 million from Birteku and $2.5 million from WIN’s Deutsche Bank acount to his personal account while he was employed as a junior lawyer in corporate law firm Atanaskovic Hartnell Lawyers. He was not working on any matters for WIN or Birketu at the time.

The transfers were allegedly made on eight occasions between June 2016 & August 2017.

Clarke was dismissed on the spot in September 2017 when the law firm became aware of the alleged dealings.

Bruce Gordon’s company Birteku has sued Mr Clarke, Westpac and various betting agencies including Sportsbet, Tabcorp and Betfair in a civil case in the Supreme Court in an effort to recover some of the allegedly stolen money.

Clarke was granted bail at Central Local Court on Wednesday.

The criminal matter will return to court on March 14.
