Peggy Lipton, best known for The Mod Squad & Twin Peaks, has died aged 72.

Lipton died surrounded by family on Saturday.

“We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer,” her family said in a statement.

“She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.

“We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us.”

Lipton played one of a trio of Los Angeles undercover hippie cops on The Mod Squad from 1968 – 1973.
The show addressed issues such as the Vietnam War, drugs and domestic violence and was one of the first US shows to feature an interracial cast. She won a Golden Globe in 1971.

She also played the role of Norma Jennings in Twin Peaks from 1989 – 1991 before reprising it in 2017.

  1. Ah so sad and only 72, myself at 58 means Peggy pretty much followed me around from TV Show to TV Show my watching life. Seems the quirky type shows I watched she appeared in, even the short lived Popular as Brooke McQueen’s Mother Kelly Foster and of course Psych however not the Dual Spires episode but the one called 1967: A Psych Odyssey.

  2. Hasn’t been a good week for Rashida Jones. First her series was axed and then her mother passed away.
In case you’re wondering why I am saying this here, Peggy Lipton is the mother of Rashida Jones.
