US medical drama New Amsterdam has confirmed it will wrap with its upcoming fifth season.
The show is currently airing its fourth season in the USA but the fifth season will be shortened from 22 to 13 episodes.
“The story of Max Goodwin, and his never-ending commitment to patients at New Amsterdam, has been inspiring,” says Lisa Katz, president of scripted programming at NBC. “We’re so grateful to David Schulner, Peter Horton, and our cast and crew for their incredible dedication, talent and collaboration.”
Universal TV President Erin Underhill adds, “When I first read the pilot script for New Amsterdam, I knew we had a winner. We cheered Max’s disruption of the status quo and applauded when he asked his patients the simple yet profound question, ‘How can I help?’ Over the last four seasons, David, Peter and our incredible cast have tackled important and thought-provoking stories that have touched on the human condition, but also made us laugh and imbued hope. We’re so proud of this series and are indebted to everyone involved in bringing ‘New Amsterdam’ to life. Bravo!”
It screens in Australia on Stan and the Nine network.

The production has been a bit of train wreck. It based on character who was supposed to die, but they saved him and killed of his wife instead. It never rated that well, but they renewed it for three seasons just as Covid hit. It tried to become all woke, then it started sending up its white wokeness. It’s had 22, 18, 14 episode seasons. S4 aired 15 eps before going on a long production break. So it’s not surprising that they are winding it up with 13 episodes. Didn’t Nine put S3 up on Now, then screen it late at night on Nine much later?
Cool to see Aussie actor Ryan Faucett in a recurring role this season.
Interesting to note S4 is dropping on Stan well before a scheduled screening on Nine.
Similar occurrence with The Resident on 7+ first, then – @ 13 weeks later – on 7.
Sign of things to come, DK?
Nine isn’t confirmed as yet.
