Warren Tredrea suing Nine over vax policy

Ex-Adelaide Nine News sports presenter is suing the network after more than 20 years with the network.

Ex-Adelaide Nine News sports presenter Warren Tredrea is suing the network after his departure from the network in January.

Tredrea took leave from the station in early December after Nine introduced a double-vaccination mandate for all employees. He began with Nine News in 2000 as a cadet, and later as sports commentator. He became the weekday sports presenter in 2013.

Tredrea has now launched legal action in the Federal Court for breach of contract, the Herald Sun reports.

He is arguing Nine had no grounds to terminate his contract as the mandatory vaccination direction was “not reasonable.”

Tredrea also claims his vaccination status did not amount to serious misconduct nor did he behave in a way that could cause damage to the reputation or business of his employer.

He alleges his dismissal cost him $176,458.32 plus GST, that being the value of the remaining term of his contract, and the loss of the opportunity to renew his deal with Nine beyond November 30, 2022.

He is seeking damages for breach of contract.

Tredrea and Nine both declined to comment.
