When Neighbours was asked about a revival…

A few months ago, when the curtain was coming down, I posed a speculative question to producers.

In June TV Tonight asked Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison if the soap might be revived sooner rather than later?

Here’s how that exchange went down….

“Someone whose opinion and insight has always been good, said to me –  and I’m paraphrasing here- ‘Don’t be surprised if in a year’s time it comes back.’ Are they alluding to something that hasn’t been (revealed)?”

JH: “It’s a beloved brand. Obviously, nowadays shows do come back after a year, 5 years, 20 years. We’ve seen lots of things rebooted. I think anything’s possible, but certainly now it’s the end.”

As it turns out that tip was on the money (a surprise even to me). The show is returning much sooner than anyone had expected.

Production is set to begin around April with a return in mid 2023. It is yet to be confirmed if producers have secured Pin Oak Court location or actors beyond Jackie Woodburne, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Stefan Dennis.

Herbison has confirmed “many many episodes” are part of the deal for 10 / Prime Video in Australia and Amazon Freevee in most other territories.

Cast will also proceed with their planned ‘Farewell’ tour, likely to be rebranded for March 2023.

The revival is the second for the much-loved soap, previously axed by Seven and rescued by 10 in 1986.
