Charges against Cameron Williams dismissed

Court agrees to mental health application and drops charges against former Nine presenter.

Charges against ex-Nine presenter Cameron Williams have been dismissed under mental health legislation.

In November Williams was arrested, charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm following a domestic incident at his Hunter Valley farm.

The Daily Telegraph reports he had been due to fight the charges at a hearing in Singleton Local Court on Friday however struck a deal with police in which they agreed to drop the more serious bodily harm charge.

Psychological reports prepared for Friday’s court proceedings, confirmed Williams had been treated in recent months, along with a detailed plan for continued treatment.

His diagnosis coincided with his departure from Nine in March, citing health reasons at the time.

Magistrate Kevin Hockey noted his moral culpability was reduced because of the mental health condition. He agreed to grant the mental health application, with charges dropped.

Under his treatment plan, Williams must remain of good behaviour and attend all counselling sessions.
