1.55m watch Matildas crush Canada

Women's World Cup draws a massive crowd for Seven. With Ashes on Nine, it was a tough night for other programming.

Monday was always going to be a big win for the FIFA Women’s World Cup -it was just a question of how big.

The Matildas did not let us down, winning 4-0 and pulling a massive 1.55m metro viewers, #1 for the night.

The biggest crowd was in Sydney at 547,000 then Melbourne 481,000 and Brissy 246,000 -all numbers will rise in Total TV.

The Ashes Series was also high albeit half those numbers at 754,000.

That left other programming with an uphill battle. 7:30 was 425,000 then Hunted (362,000) and Back Roads (328,000).

Even Have You Been Paying Attention? was soft at 362,000 then Media Watch (271,000), Four Corners (236,000)

Seven easily won Monday with 43.0% share then Nine 27.8%, 10 12.8%, ABC 11.5% and SBS just 4.9%.

Seven News won with 991,000 / 962,000. The Chase topped entertainment with 564,000 / 329,000. Home & Away was 499,000.

Nine News (823,000 / 802,000) was best for Nine. A Current Affair was strong at 716,000 then Hot Seat 392,000 / 228,000.

The Project pulled 297,000 / 179,000 for 10. 10 News First was 217,000 / 153,000. Celia Pacquola: Let Me Know was

ABC News drew 589,000. The Drum (160,000), Hard Quiz (151,000) and Q+A (143,000) followed.

On SBS it was SBS World News (147,000 / 110,000), Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes (69,000), The Great House Revival (61,000) and 24 Hours in Emergency (47,000).

News Breakfast: 98,000 / 54,000

  1. The most underrated show on Monday nights is: Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes. Such a gem of a show. While I don’t know most of the UK celebrities, I can appreciate the need for a break and enjoy the activities and stunning scenery!

    1. It’s a bit hit and miss. Some segments and guests are fun and interesting, some are nothing more than crude plugs for local tourism businesses.
