ABC picks up UK drama Best Interests

UK drama stars Michael Sheen & Sharon Horgan as parents of a child with a life-threatening condition.

ABC has acquired UK drama Best Interests, created and written by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, National Treasure, The Virtues).

The 4 part drama, which debuted on BBC One in June 2023, stars Michael Sheen (Good Omens, Quiz) and Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe, Together) as a married couple who have two daughters, one of which has a life-threatening condition. The doctors believe it is in her best interests to be allowed to die, but her family disagrees.

“It is no surprise to me that this series has resonated with broadcasters from all over the world who agree that audiences of every background will find themselves deeply engrossed by this magnificent production,” said Arvand Khosravi, senior VP of scripted television strategy at Fifth Season.

An airdate is yet to be announced.

  1. A fictional dramatisation inspired by the Charlie Gard case, which both Coronation St and Keeping Faith have done stories on. And the Acrhie Battersbee case which generated a lot of publicity last year. Not really relevent, society has settled pulling the plug ethics and move on to active euthanasia.
