Accused man to apologise to Stan Grant

Several charges against man accused of threatening former ABC host dropped, but one is maintained.

A man alleged to have made threats to Stan Grant intends to apologise to the former Q+A host.

Michael Steven Davis, 41, did not appear in person when his case was heard at Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court yesterday but lawyer Peter Mitchell told the court his client plans to meet Grant for the purpose of apologising.

One charge of using a carriage service to threaten serious harm has been maintained, while several others have been withdrawn.

Grant stepped aside from Q+A, and subsequently ABC, citing continued abuse and dissatisfaction with the role of media.

“I’m not walking away for a while because of racism. We get that far too often,” he said. “I’m not walking away because of social media hatred. I need a break from the media. I feel like I’m part of the problem and I need to ask myself how or if we can do it better.”

Davis’s case will return to court on October 31.
