2022 SBS documentary The Cleaning Company has won Best Documentary (one-off) at the Asian Academy Awards held in Singapore on Thursday.
It was the only Australian winner in the event which pits winners chosen from individual territories then competing for best in the region.
The Cleaning Company was produced by Walking Fish Productions & GoodThing Productions for SBS.
Screening as part of Australia Uncovered, it followed trauma cleaners who clean spaces that no one else will touch – hoarder sites, meth-labs, murder scenes and more. They clean the homes of some of society’s most vulnerable people – the neglected, the lonely, the addicted, and the mentally unwell.
Korean-produced series The Glory won the best drama series award outclassing Australia’s Safe Home, also for SBS.
Australian territory wins were announced in September.
