Merrick Watts denies joining SAS Australia

“It’s unfounded, untrue. I won’t be returning to SAS Australia," says former contestant on Seven show.

Merrick Watts has denied media reports he is joining SAS Australia DS team alongside Ant Middleton.

Speaking to Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick, he said, “A few people have asked me, but this is the first time I’ve spoken to the media about it because the media didn’t bother to ask me about it at all. They just went and wrote it, and I read it, and I was like, ‘That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. So that’s news to me.”

Fifi Box asked, “Is it even an option? Have you been talked to about it by Channel 7?”

“No, no. Not only have I not been spoken to about it, no one has been spoken to about it. It’s never come up. I don’t know how this came about. I barely made it through as a recruit; I don’t think I’m in a position now to become a teacher about it,” he replied.

“It’s unfounded, untrue. I won’t be returning to SAS Australia.”

The story first emerged in News Corp papers with Ant Middleton confirming, “Merrick Watts, he is coming on as one of the DS, the directing staff, he is going to be by my side on the next SAS.

“I guess the cat is out of the bag now. We have to keep evolving it (the show), keep it fresh.”

Seven is yet to confirm the show for 2025….
