Melbourne Cup jockey competed on The Voice

The racing world is singing the praises of ex-Voice contestant Robbie Dolan after riding Knight's Choice to victory yesterday.

Melbourne Cup jockey Robbie Dolan, who rode Knight’s Choice to glory yesterday, was a contestant on The Voice.

Irish-born Dolan turned three chairs when he performed James Bay’s ‘Let It Go’ in 2022.

He joined Rita Ora’s team making it all the way to the ‘Sing-offs,’ in the year won by Lachie Gill.

Later that year he was asked to sing The Horses at the Cox Plate. Yesterday there was no stopping him with Knight’s Choice.

“It is incredible. I can’t believe it. I don’t even know what to say,” he said.

“I watched every Melbourne Cup far the last 40 years.

“I thought my best chance was to get him to stay the trip and hopefully he can run home and do the quick sectionals he can on a good track and he proved everybody wrong.”

He predicted a big night of celebrations ahead.

“I will be singing tonight with a few beers,” he added.

Meanwhile some news stories suggest viewers were caught out by Nine screening the Cup, expecting Seven to be the host broadcaster given it had Horse Racing on all day. Again.

One Twitter user posted: “Been watching Channel 7 for three hours only to realise the bloody Melbourne Cup is on Channel 9. Missed the whole thing. Sums up the day really”.

Another posted: “It’s ‘The race that stops a nation’ (Until some of the nation realise too late they’ve been watching the wrong horse race meeting on Channel 7 instead of 9)”.

One user wrote: “I think Channel Seven should not be allowed to have a program called Seven’s Horse Racing on at the same time as the Melbourne Cup”.

  1. How good. What a magical moment and an upset, photo finish. A little flashback to Prince of Penzance and Michalle Payne 9 years ago. I’d watched him and his Dad in the studio with Eddie McGuire hours earlier, a fab chat, little did we know we’d be celebrating with Robbie as Melbourne Cup victor later (they also talked about his singing talent too). I even glanced his horse early in the day in the form guides, just because it was Irish and they’re known stayers… Blast! The rest of my slips went to pot, like many I reckon :D
