US sci-fi 12 Monkeys has been renewed for a third season.
10 more episodes will follow in 2017.
Based on the 1995 film of the same name, the series follows weary time traveler James Cole (Aaron Stanford) and virologist Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) as they attempt to save the world from the Army of the 12 Monkeys, who release a plague that kills off most of humanity. It also stars Barbara Sukowa, Emily Hampshire, Kirk Acevedo, and Todd Stashwick.
“Syfy and UCP have been incredible creative partners, and I’m thrilled that we are going to tell the next — even more twisty and emotional — chapter of this time travel adventure,” executive producers Terry Matalas told EW.
“This season of 12 Monkeys has proven to be a breakthrough,” says Jeff Wachtel, chief content officer of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and president of Universal Cable Productions. “From its epic storytelling to its grand aesthetic, Terry and the cast and crew have invested boundless energy and passion, and it showed. New legions of fans will discover what devoted viewers already know: It’s one of the best shows on television.”
12 Monkeys screens in Australia on Syfy and SBS 2.

One of the best shows airing at the moment. Intelligent, thrilling serialised TV
It’s been a very up and down ride but it’s finishing season two on an up so this is good news.
