L.A. Confidential series in development (again)

1950s detective saga gets another shot at a small screen adaptation.

CBS is developing a TV adaptation of L.A. Confidential -the second time one has been attempted.

To be based on James Ellroy’s classic novel of the same name, the series would follow the paths of three homicide detectives, a female reporter, and a Hollywood actress as they intersect while the detectives pursue a sadistic serial killer through the seedy underbelly of 1950’s Los Angeles.

Jordan Harper (The Mentalist, Gotham) is set to write and executive produce the new version for CBS.

Curtis Hanson’s 1997 film of the same name starred Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, James Cromwell, and Danny DeVito.

A 2003 pilot starring Kiefer Sutherland, Eric Roberts and Melissa George was shot but not picked up, while Ellroy shopped a sequel series to various networks in 2013 without success.
