Oscarrrr… time for Oscar.

Next week is one of my favourite days of the TV year -the Oscars.

I love to shut myself off from all media so I can watch the ceremony in ignorant bliss.

This year the awards are hosted by Ellen De Generes, a pretty perfect choice if Billy or Whoopi aren’t on hand. Ellen has the perfect blend of humour, cynicism and bitchiness, and she is a proven performer with the Emmys.

Channel Nine will be screening the Oscars next Monday night, starting with the Red Carpet at 7:30pm (please no Richard Wilkins?), and the Awards at 8pm. Expect to see lots of spoilers and news alerts from other networks. Traditionally Nine News will (understandably) broadcast the winners as part of the day’s news, but during news updates in the ceremony, they remain mum on the winners. Bravo.

This year I’m actually seeing a live feed, so if I manage to update this site in time, I promise not to reveal any winners, but I may mention some other highlights to look out for.

Also worth a mention is Foxtel screening the Independent Spirit Awards 2007 at 7pm Sunday Night on Movie Extra. And SBS is also in Oscars mood with The Saviour, an Australian short nominated on Monday. It airs 9:05pm on Sunday night. It will also repeat Harvie Krumpet and The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello at 11:15pm.
