Torchwood: Channel Who?

Word has it the ABC has passed on picking up Torchwood, the spin-off of Dr Who starring John Barrowman.

Apparently the series required a classification which would need a timeslot post 8:30m. ABC couldn’t see an opening and passed on acquiring the rights.

Dr Who put in a more-than-respectable performance over summer in the Saturday 7:30pm timeslot.

It’s peculiar that with such interest in the sci-fi franchise, Aunty couldn’t find an opening. Obviously it didn’t have enough faith in the series to slate it as part of its Sunday 8:30pm slot. And what will replace The West Wing when it ends its run on Saturday nights?

So now we have to wait and see if another broadcaster will pick it up. TEN? SBS? Nine? The Sci-Fi Channel?

  1. Have seen the first two episodes and want more…Captain Jack is to die for…and the effects and stories so far outstanding…ABC should pick it up NOW!!!!!

  2. Torchwood is AWFUL. Poor acting, bad writing, weak and inconsistent plotting and unconvincing CGI effects are just some of the problems. While Doctor Who soars – Torchwood slumps. John Barrowman deserves a better vehicle than this rubbish for his talents.

  3. TORCHWOOD is an excellent series. (Viewed it in the UK)
Definitely NOT for children but still something that the ABC should have picked up. If it ends up on Pay TV that will be a crime as most of us don’t have Pay TV and refuse to waste the money on it!
The 13 Episodes range from good to brilliant and has plenty of action, drama, great effects and sex of various kinds!

    Jack!
