Encores… we got encores.

Encore noun: a demand, as by applause, for a repetition of a song, act, etc.

Well let’s not let the English language get in the way of a little marketing. The idea of an audience actually requesting a second screening is vastly different to a programmer who turns around and schedules one anyway (including programming an Encore before the first screening has even taken place).

They should really be known as:

Repeat noun: a radio or television program that has been broadcast at least once before.

Regardless, there are extra screenings of both Californication and City Homicide over the next week:

Californication: Sunday 9:40pm TEN
City Homicide: Friday 11:30pm and Monday 12pm Seven.

  1. I actually like the idea of both these channels doing encores of their more popular shows. While I wouldn’t want to become a point of programming where it becomes an annoyance, I would like to see more encore screenings during the week. Then again, I assume once the main stream channels get their second and maybe third digital channels, they’ll be used as a repeat zone.

On an unrelated note, how did the three big Monday night screenings fair up against one another? Who was the winner in City Homicide, Californication and The King?

  2. Seven is contractually obliged to begin their Friday night AFL broadcasts at 11:30 in Sydney and Brisbane so I doubt the City Homicide encore will be airing in that slot in those cities.

  3. I could see the City Homicide “encore” coming a mile away, though I didn’t expect two of ’em. Only last night Iwas searching EPGs for an encore of it, as I had something else recording on the hard disk at the time (and going by the complaints on the Seven web site’s forum about the insane amount and length of commercial breaks during Monday night’s screening, do I need to emphasise again why I pre-record *everything* and either edit out or skip past commercials, depending on the platform I’m viewing on? 🙂
