Who confirmed to 2010

Dr. Who has been confirmed to continue production until 2010, the BBC has announced.

Following the 2007 Christmas special featuring Kylie Minogue, the currently filmed series will air in 2008. In 2009 there will be three specials and a full series in 2010.

David Tennant and writer Russell T. Davies are confirmed for all.

“Its journey over the past three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we have had, and I’m delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010” a BBC spokesperson has said.

  1. Hey Leo,

Or, you could do as I have done, and live in Cardiff, Watch it on repeat on BBC1 on Christmas day (or a few days after, we’re going for a white christmas this year), and catch up with them filming Doctor Who and Torchwood around the city .. as a former companion once said .. ACE!

    Andrew.

  2. Hi David,

How has Dr Who been rating on the ABC this year?

Its popular as always in the forums, just look at the torchwood response, another shame the ABC didn’t get this as I’m sure it would have consolidated support and done better.

    cheers
    Nev

  3. There are no official ratings over the Christmas period, so I’d say there’s zero chance of seeing the Christmas special before the premiere of the next season mid-2008.

  4. Be like the rest of us Leo … downlaod it and watch it within a couple of hours of it screening in the UK!
Of course, if the ABC does the right thing by us all and screens it within a couple of days of the UK … we will happily wait and not download … it is really ALL UP TO THEM!
    Jack!

  5. Hi David
Do you know if the ABC will screen the Xmas episode shortly after the UK screening on Christmas day – since our Kylie is in it, why can’t they screen it “hot off the satelite” – would be fantastic!

  6. As for Martha … when you get to the end of this season you will see that she has, in theory, been with the Doctor for over two years and her character has developed dramatically this season. It is absolutely necessary for her to take a break from travelling with the Doctor and care for her family as well as establish herself again, she even has a boyfriend now. So when she does return to the Tardis she will be a much stronger and different Martha. Even in Torchwood she will shake up the team (which they need).
This is what Russell has been saying about her anyway.
Can’t wait to see her and Catherine Tate go head to head later in season four.
    Jack!

  7. As a WHO Fanatic … I must say that I am thrilled we will not be loosing David Tennant for a while yet, he is simply brilliant, and so too is the amazing Russell T Davies. David is aparently playing Hamlet live for the Royal Shakespeare Company so they have been very smart to cut back on the Who work for 2009 to accommodate him and also give the team a much deserved break … even Russell is starting to show the strain of the insane WHO/Torchwood/Sarah Jane Adventures schedule.
Finally, a TV network that can actually make the right decision at the right time!!! Whould never happen here! (Well maybe at 7 it does sometimes).
    Jack!

  8. Oh no, no full season for 2009…. *wipes tear away*

How are we supposed to get our weekly geek fix?

Well, at least there’s final special of Ricky Gervais’s EXTRAS to look forward to.

  9. Martha will feature in five episodes next season after a three-episode stint in Torchwood. After that, no one knows what’s in store for either her or Torchwood.

  10. *Really* disappointed that there won’t be a full series in 2009, but extremely excited about the series continuing until at least 2010! Fingers crossed it will continue beyond that!

  11. Yes I am still on a break, sort of. I’ve been working all of Aug on other projects and now I am finally getting a true break.

Sounds like the Who team are in fatigue, plus could be availability issues of key creatives, possibly working on other projects.

Pretty sure Martha is moving to Torchwood. Ask a Who fanatic – of which I’m not.

  12. Hey There David,

Even during your break you still somehow manage awesome updates hehe.

Just a quick question – why would they only do 3 specials in 2009 as opposed to a series? Its great news either way don’t get me wrong – i’m just a bit confused, not to mention confused why they would get rid of Martha before we’ve had any time to get to know her properly? Do you think that’d alienate an audience?

Hope its ok to post all of that!

Once again, thanks for posting the article! 🙂

    Dak
