TEN apology over ‘F word’

Network TEN was forced to apologise yesterday after ‘the F word’ was dropped during its So You Think You Can Dance live elimination show.

As the first male dancer was saved from elimination one of three male dancers is believed to have said, “F . . . no.”

TEN’s apology read: “Last night’s Dance Australia verdict was live to air. In a moment of heightened emotion, one of the boys – while hugging his fellow contestants – expressed himself as a young person would.

“The language was indistinct and muffled, such that we can’t be sure which boy made the remark.

“The issue has been addressed and efforts redoubled to prevent such an incident happening again.”

  1. Now if only 10 would issue an apology for inflicting Natalie B on us – she was like a dear in headlights on Monday night!
She has had no hosting experience & is left to handle a primetime show by herself – she needs a more experienced co-host, a guy maybe – to bounce off!

  2. I heard it three times as well … it was obvious in HD … but I thought it was hilarious … that is the risk of live TV with contestants like this! Corrupting the kids ???… they probably all learn the word at home anyway!
    Jack!

  3. Wow, the clip changes everything.

I *distinctly* heard at least 3 F-words at around the 45 second mark as the guys were consoling each other. 😐 (And I *think* I heard someone say “F*** no” a little later, but that was barely audible.

I’m not a censorship nut or anything, but for a show to be given a PG rating (and particularly for a show that appeals to such a wide audience, including young children), how the hell could the censors NOT have noticed that? It wasn’t even muffled in the least.

Those idiots at TEN should be sacked.

  4. I watched the show with the volume turned up and am offended that I didn’t hear any such thing! It wasn’t obvious – did they edit the telecast for other states?

I don’t see the big deal however, you see our sportsmen mouthing swear words all the time on the field. You can’t be expected to censor out everything!

  5. Neonkitten, the timeslot is irrelevant. SYTYCD received a PG classification, and thus TEN were responsible for keeping it that way.

Well, I didn’t watch it, and I doubt I would’ve heard it either, but there have been far worse instances which have slipped on TV (Neighbours dropping the F-bomb, a BB HM dropping the C-word, Rove swearing during the Logies).

I can understand that it’s impossible to pay attention to *every* last word uttered during a live telecast, but I don’t see why it’s such a big deal. TEN may have made a small slip-up, and they apologized for it. End of story.

  6. Oh, dear, Ten is corrupting our children. Are religious fanatics already on a march?
Seriously, I haven’t even heard it, so I’m not even sure if it’s not just another overreaction.

  7. Hang on – this was uttered after 8.30, surely (the show is scheduled to run overtime every night, after all) and so there is no classification issue.

Nobody’s actually sure if the word was said at all, it seems in fact.

Come on, Ten publicity department, you’re better at manufacturing “controversy” than this! I’m disappointed in you! Get one of the contestants to “do a Jane Fonda” and THEN people might pay attention!

Nice to see that whoever copied the press release… err I mean whoever wrote that article was so proud of their gun reporting they didn’t even bother to put their name to it, by the way…
