Dame Edna’s long-suffering bridesmaid, “Madge Allsop” has died.
Actress Emily Perry died at the age of 100.
Perry was 80 when she first took on the role in 1987, never uttering a word, but silently affixing badges to star guests and bearing the brunt of Dame Edna’s savage comments.
She retired in 2004 and moved to a home for retired entertainers.
Speaking to the BBC News website last year ahead of her 100th birthday, Perry said: “You know, my memory’s gone. I’ve been all around the world with Barry (Humphries), and I can’t remember a thing.”
UPDATE 23/1: Barry Humphries has paid tribute to Perry saying, “It is a great loss to me, she was a close friend….I think if Dame Edna was to pay tribute, she’d say: ‘I’d wish I’d been nicer to her…I’m very saddened to hear of her passing. She is absolutely irreplaceable.”
