HD ratings on the way

OzTAM will start reporting viewing numbers for HD channels from late November.

OzTAM will report the viewing of the free-to-air HD channels when they broadcast non-simulcast content. ABC2 will be the first free-to-air digital channel to be separately reported as it is a stand-alone channel.

The move follows an announcement by Foxtel and Austar to source audience figures using personal digital recorders with Multi Channel Network (MCn). The demise of Seven’s Night Cap (pictured) was also a partial response to a lack of advertising revenue and no measurable figures of who was watching 7HD.

OzTAM CEO Kate Inglis-Clark said, “In preparation for separately reporting the HD channels, OzTAM’s paramount goal has been to ensure the framework is as robust, representative and accurate as our clients quite rightly expect.

“Progress is well on track and we are confident that we will meet our November target date.”
