UPDATE: 4 workmates won $58m, 2 are single and 2 are married.
33.
That was the number that landed one solitary entry a cool $58m last night. The winning ticket was bought at Lakeside Newsagency in Reservoir, metropolitan Melbourne, on a 50 game quick pick.
The Powerball draw is an Australian record, and its 60 second broadcast will go down as television history.
Eighty five people won a second division prize of $76,212 and more than 500 won $5579 on third division.
Which current affairs programme will land the million dollar winner in a secret, pixellated interview?

What irritates me is the measly lower division winnings. They’re not even enough to pay off the ticket! Div6 and 7 are $21.70 and $11.20 respectively.
With such a ridiculously large Division1 prize, surely they could have distributed the rest of the division prizes more generously.
Well it wasn’t me. Because I forgot to buy a ticket.
Then again, with the mathematical odds of winning Powerball at a quite staggering 1 in 27,489,578 (compare that to regular Saturday Tattslotto, which give you a still-tough 1 in 2,036,265 chance) you can see why they call it “your ticket to dream” – because dream is all 99.999999999% of their players will ever do 🙂
