From July SBS is adding finance updates each weekday to air at 12:55pm, 5:55pm and 10pm.

“Financial news will still be covered in our 6.30pm and 9.30pm World News Australia bulletins but these additional updates will offer viewers more frequent, up-to-the-minute global business information that’s vital to their daily news intake,” said Paul Cutler, Director of SBS News and Current Affairs.

Press Release:
From the beginning of July, SBS Television will enhance its exceptional world news service by offering viewers three finance updates, every weekday.

The updates, running for two and a half minutes each, will air at 12:55pm, 5:55pm and 10pm. They will be concise wraps of the day’s markets and financial news in Australia and across the world, their emphasis changing depending on time of day.

The updates will be produced and presented by the Sydney office of respected global broadcaster CNBC, a world leader in business news. SBS will retain editorial control over content and presentation.

To augment this finance coverage, the PBS-produced Nightly Business Report is migrating from SBS Television’s analogue signal to the network’s digital World News Channel (channel 33) where it will be screened from 1st July at 2:30pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

“This change will eliminate interruptions to the service by irregular sporting and other commitments and, at the same time, will allow for the re-introduction of the weekend edition of the Nightly Business Report on Saturdays,” Paul Cutler said.

“Overall, these changes mean that SBS will provide its viewers with a more comprehensive business outlook, utilizing our own resources and that of respected global business news providers.”

  1. I actually have mixed feelings on the move. While the finance updates are definitely welcome, one would have thought showing the lunchtime update immediately after the NBR (as the Nightly Business Report is more commonly known) will be more effective.
Also, why show the NBR at 2.30pm when the target audience (business people and investors) will resume work after lunch? Why not air the program at 1pm?
And will the CNBC-produced updates be shown live or delayed outside the eastern states?
