Monday September 22nd sure is a busy day, with the Brownlow Medal and the Emmy Awards both taking place.
While Arena screens the Emmys live to air at 10am AEST, Network TEN will screen a highlights package later that night. But as it competes with the Brownlow Medal, times will vary depending on where you live:
Monday Sept 22
Melbourne / Adelaide / Perth
6:00 Taken Out
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 2008 Brownlow Medal: Red Carpet arrivals
7:30 Australian Idol
8:30 2008 Brownlow Medal
11:00 TEN Late News with Sports Tonight
11:45 The Late Show with David Letterman
12:30 2008 Emmy Awards highlights
Sydney / Brisbane
7:00 Taken Out
7:30 Australian Idol
8:30 90210
9:30 2008 Emmy Awards highlights
11:30 TEN Late News with Sports Tonight
12:15 The Late Show with David Letterman
1:00 2008 Brownlow Medal highlights
Burn Notice will not screen in any state on this night. One of the reasons TEN had dropped the series was for the disruptions that were in the schedule including the 2hr 90210 premiere and the Brownlow / Emmys.
On September 15 90210 screens at 8:30pm and Burn Notice at 9:30pm throughout. Three more eps will remain after next Monday’s “Bad Blood” episode.
Press release:
Tonight, the telecast awarding Primetime Emmys in 29 categories will be presented before a black-tie.
Of the 51 nominations for comedy and drama programs as well as lead and supporting performers, 21 were not included among last year’s nominees – a 40% change.
Various first-time nominees have been chosen, including TEN’s very own “Dexter” in the drama series category, as well as drama series newcomer Anjelica Huston in “Medium”.
Look out for the The Office’s Steve Carell who is up against Ricky Gervais for the best comedy actor category. Gervais (nominated for his comedy series Extras) played the same character in the original U.K. version of The Office.

It’s too soon for 90210 but it would be a long shot to get a nomination. Try Wikipedia for Beverly Hills 90210.
does anybody know if the 90210 got any Emy award? I could not follow all the program, but I like a lot 90210 remembers me my great teenager times
David,
Any idea what will be happening with CH – since the cities have the Brownlow live, are getting a repeat that week, the other cities are getting a new episode. Will those cities getting the Brownlow be behind a week for the rest of the year or are Seven airing it once off on a Wednesday (or double episode somewhere)?
mmm, pathetic as it is, I take an ADO every year when the Emmys are on and watch them live on Arena…lol…what a sad life I lead…
On Monday September 29, Sydney and Brisbane will get a single episode of 90210 while double episodes will be shown in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Thank god I get Arena, just a question though, what’s happening to that episode of 90210 for Melbourne viewers? Or will the states be out of sync until there’s a gap in the scheduling?
Oh Arena is showing it Live, thank goodness. I’ll have to put that for record. Ive been waiting for a date for that. Thanks.
didn’t they use to air the Emmys in full like a year or so ago on free to air tv?
Hahahaha Brownlow sleeping pill. Thats witty.
I won’t be watching any of these, Idol’s the same thing every year, Taken Out looks like the new Big Brother, BN’s probably too far into its second season for me to catch up, I grew out of high school shows once The OC finished, and I can easily view the Emmy results online without sitting through the rest of the fluff.
Its highlights in all territories, I’ve amended post.
Ten’s “very own” Dexter?
Ah, gotta love PR spin. I’m sure Ten is waiting eagerly to see if the tens of millions of dollars they poured into the production of Dexter will pay off.
Any reason why the Emmy Awards is listed as just that in Sydney/Brisbane (read: states that don’t have to suffer the hell that is the Brownlow sleeping pill) but as “highlights” in other capitals – and vice versa?
Could Sydney/Brisbane be getting a longer Emmys broadcast?
Funny world, isn’t it, when the award-show choice between international stars / intelligent drama or boofhead footballers / handbag attachments is won by the latter in most major TV markets…
I’m glade ch10 is sticking with Burn Notice even if it’s interrupted by other things, as for the Emmys they have been a sham for years and not planning to watch that crap!
so what is happening to torchwood? just not going to be on at all that week? coz with all this complication it is probably just easier for 10 to leave 10HD as a simulcast on the 22nd, otherwise they’d have to do different start times for different states and it wouldn’t get the 10:30 timeslot anywhere. so they are probably just going to skip the week aren’t they david?
