Moonlighting strangers who just met on the way

The classic 80s series will get another lease on life in reruns on Seven's afternoons.

If you can see her through all the Vaseline, Cybill Shepherd will be back on screens next month.

Seven is to re-screen the madcap mystery Moonlighting on afternoons at 3pm from Monday November 3rd.

Airing from 1985-89, Moonlighting rocketed Bruce Willis to super stardom, not the least of which was because of his comic timing and on-screen chemistry with Shepherd. The two stars argued and yelled, and slammed more doors than any other show in TV history.

The show was noted for repeatedly breaking the ‘fourth wall’ and talking to camera. They even had a musical episode. And there were lots of famous faces making appearances too: Whoopi Goldberg, Tim Robbins, Pierce Brosnan, Demi Moore.

But the fire died once their ‘unresolved sexual tension’ was effectively resolved.

A TRIP TO THE MOON
After a month of intimacy, Maddie begins to question just where this relationship with David is headed. Guest starring RAY CHARLES and DR. JOYCE BROTHERS. Also starring CYBILL SHEPHERD, BRUCE WILLIS, ALLYCE BEASLEY, CURTIS ARMSTRONG, CHARLES ROCKET, JACK BLESSING, ROBERT WEBBER, EVA MARIE SAINT, DR JOYCE BROTHERS and CHARLES ROCKET.

  1. Never knew about Cybil being ill. From my understanding it was the hostility between Bruce and Cybil that contributed to the unstability and eventual demise of the show. And of course when they resolved said tension in season 3 that didn’t help.

  2. People cite Moonlighting as the example of
    “resolve sexual tension = fail”
But there were many factors at work. Yes, once Maddie and David got together, things fizzled out. BUT Cybill was very, very ill during her pregnancy and was later ordered to bed rest. Which meant she couldn’t appear on the show at all. So of course the magic can’t be there.
Plus, the show had a history of running late, the scripts were late, they had to plug holes in the schedule with repeats because they didn’t get the shows made in time etc. There was also constant tension on set. Later, when Bruce’s career took off, he wasn’t always available either.

Moonlighting was awesome. I have clearly read way too many blogs on the subject…..

  3. To be fair Seven did show Moonlighting recently but for some reason stopped at the end of season 3 so this is the first time season 4 is being shown. I remember getting the impression that Seven were cutting the eps though so I may wait until I get the DVDs.

  4. I love Moonlighting. It’s a great show. But it wasn’t too long ago that 7 screened it in the afternoon. There are sooooooo many shows that have been on in years and years and that aren’t available on DVD yet. Why don’t they show some of them? And why don’t they take MASH off? It must’ve been on for about five years straight!
