When Nicole met Dave

“Did I just miss the point?” asked Nicole Kidman.

Yep.

She really didn’t click too well with David Letterman this week, failing to understand what Letterman was talking about regarding Crocodile Dundee, and missing a chance to introduce a clip to Australia.

“This is not a rehearsal,” said Dave.

Nicole, who says she thought Dave wanted her to be quiet for the clip, laughed off the embarrassed moment.

Their chat went so well Dave even had to ask, “You’re not coming back are you?”

This is a long clip but the good stuff starts around 2.30 mins.

After the interview Letterman said he felt like a dope. Like a dumb kid at the end of a bad date, “Will it be OK if I called you again?” he said.

But a charming Simon Baker came to the rescue for the country. His segment ran more smoothly. Even he had a gag at Nicole’s expense.

  1. I’d say Simon Baker was having a joke at Letterman’s expense – not Nicole’s! Thankfully over there Aussies seem to stick together and aren’t so quick to stab each other in the back as we seem to want to do over here. Letterman is not a great interviewer – never has been – he entertains and I find him quite entertaining. However, like so many American interviewers, he’s often more interested in talking about himself rather than asking intelligent, thoughtful questions of his guests. And if misunderstandings occur, isn’t that the fault of the interviewer, rather than the guest? Besides, it wasn’t nearly as bad as David Knox made out – I laughed along with Nicole and didn’t cringe once. It was all quite entertaining in Letterman’s usual offbeat style.

  2. Wow lots of opinions. Personally I think if you agree to go on Dave you know what the deal is. That’s why he’s lasted all these years. Either agree to run with the flow or don’t go on. She’s been there before, but maybe she was having a bad day. As somebody pointed out, it was no Madonna or Meg Ryan moment at least…
