“Inadvertent error” in Freeview brands

Freeview admits one of the manufacturers listed as part of its retail launch, Panasonic, was named in error.

freeview-062At Monday Freeview’s retail launch in Sydney gathered media, celebrities and shiny branded boxes boasting a number of major brands including Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp and Toshiba. Several of them were not represented at the launch at a Dick Smith store.

But in the enthusiasm to spruik its deals, Freeview listed Panasonic which doesn’t yet have any deal in place.

It has since conceded listing Panasonic was an “inadvertent error.”

Panasonic Director of Consumer Electronics, Paul Reid also said that whilst Panasonic is not yet a participant, discussions had so far been fruitful.

Freeview said that this was the only time it had made such a mistake.

Panasonic has not been listed on Freeview’s website, and its spokesperson said that only fully-fledged Freeview participants had ever been listed on the site.

  1. i have always bought panasonic dvd/hdd recorders, and i can live without the 30 second skip button as long as i can still fast forward and create chapters and edit out the ads later. if this functionality is removed i will have to search for another brand in future. there is a difference between wanting to make you watch ads and forcing you to have ads in the copy you burn to dvd to keep forever, out dated ads from years ago just look ridiculous when you watch them again and make you laugh at the product not want to buy it, plus they will waste valuable space on the disk. i really love my panasonic recorders but if they take away more than just the 30second skip button i will have to find another brand. so don’t let freeview push you around panasonic, it will affect your sales.

  2. And hopefully they won’t be a participant I want to replace my parent’s analogue DVD recorder with a Panasonic twin HD DVD recorder 250GB HDD and I want to be able to be able to skip out ads which you cant do on stupid freeview

  3. Panasonic will launch TV’s with a MPEG4 tuner this year but somehow are not part of Freeview equipment branding, sounds oddd, especially when their EPG is similar to what is being proposed
