Mary-Louise Parker to exit Weeds?

Weeds would surely wind up if Mary Louise Parker decides to walk.

mlpMary Louise Parker is considering leaving Weeds after season six.

Parker is under contract through series six but ‘a source’ close to one of the cast members said that she is planning to exit once her contract commitments are fulfilled.

The fate of Weeds hinges on Parker’s decision, sources said. If she stays, the show would likely continue its successful run. If she leaves, expect it go up in smoke.

“We’d have to see if it made sense to continue, but we can’t envision the show without her,” said one Showtime insider.

Showtime has only committed to Weeds through to the  fifth season which premieres in the US in June.

  1. The show hit it’s peak in season 2, i don’t even know if i trust it to stay watchable for the next two seasons. It’s not bad or anything, just a bit over it all, it’s not what it once was.

  2. Sometimes they just need to let things die. Programs dont have an indefinate self life. All too often you see programs, particularly American, where it bares no resemblance to how the show originally started and what made it successful, just so they can continue to flog a dead horse as they are so bereft of program ideas

  3. @Aidan – I doubt Lauren would be in weeds but we are talking 2 years down the track so who knows. Currently Lauren is on Broadway in Guys and Dolls but at the end of the year (if her sitcom is picked up) will have a new show on ABC in the US.

Given the nature of the show and Mary’s part I still say it will be over when she leaves.

  4. “Yeah if they wind up the series it’s probably about time.
I just hope that Nine brings it back on their new channel.”

Unlikely, it’s not a repeat or reality show…

    LOL

  5. Yeah to be honest if they wrapped up with season 6 it’d probably be healthy for the show. It’s a brilliant program. It came close, some would argue too close, to jumping the shark in season 4. Now that they seem to believe they’ve run out of stories in the suburbs I’m happy for it to wind down. S4 wasn’t at the standard of the first 3 seasons.

  6. Wrapping up the show by Season 6 is possible as in it won’t be that hard to wrap everything up, but I don’t want a show without her. If she leaves as Season 6 it will be a shame as its one of my favourite shows…I love Weeds.
