Now Nine being sued for defamation

Two divers who survived an ordeal at sea after their tour boat allegedly abandoned them are suing the Nine Network over comments aired on A Current Affair.

aca2-logo1Following on from news that the TEN Network is being sued for defamation over comments on Before the Game, now two divers who survived 19 hours at sea after their tour boat allegedly abandoned them on the Great Barrier Reef are suing the Nine Network.

California-based diving instructors Allyson Dalton and Richard Neely were rumoured to have received up to $1 million — an amount they have denied — in media deals after selling the rights to their story of survival off the Whitsunday Islands in May last year.

The deals, brokered through celebrity agent Max Markson, gave rise to suspicion and prompted Queensland Premier Anna Bligh to say they should donate the money to their search and rescue.

Nine’s A Current Affair broadcast three stories on the couple in July last year, including dive instructor, Kylie Irwin, who said the dive company exhaustively searched for them and they did not want to be found.

The pair have filed for defamation in the Supreme Court.
