Top Gear is set to recreate the legendary getaway scene made famous in the movie The Italian Job.
But they will do it in the sewers of Belfast.
A spokesperson for the BBC show said Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May hoped to film the race through the city’s new six-mile sewer network in the coming weeks.
After all their crazy stunts, this will be the first time they have raced underground.
In the original 1969 film a gang led by Charlie Croker, played by Michael Caine, hatch a plan to steal gold destined for banks in Turin before making their getaway in three Minis. It was remade in 2003 (pictured) starring Mark Wahlberg.
The idea emerged from a proposal to promote the £100m Belfast Sewers Project.

i think that they may have made the 13th season a bit short i no it was packed with cool challenges and all but it was all over too quick
I enjoyed the remake, and not just because it had Mark Wahlberg and Jason Statham in it *sighs* Can’t wait to see Clarkson, Hammond and May racing around in minis.
The 2003 remake was much better than the original.
@craig Leno’s appearance will be on the series final 13×07 in just over a week on Aug 02. This weeks EP will have Brian Johnson as the SIARPC. Have to say, this series so far has been enjoyable. It’ll be interesting to see what that T-Rex seen in the series teaser will do to The Stig.
are they struggling to get people to use the new £100m Belfast Sewers Project??
I’ve been following the UK series, (since SBS is not bothering yet) and didn’t realize it was so close to the end already. Can’t wait to see this though. Hey when is Leno going to be on?
When is the current UK series coming to aus?
Craig
It would air in the next series. The current series in the UK finishes on sunday week.
Awesome!!
Cool!
So I guess this will air in this series or do we have to wait months for the next, in the UK?
