The Invention of Lying – written by and starring Ricky Gervais, and also starring Jennifer Garner.

A Serious Man – the Coen brothers are back with a black comedy set in 1967 about a Midwestern professor whose life unravels when his wife leaves because his brother won’t move out of the house.

Cold Souls – starring Paul Giamatti, Dina Korzun, Emily Watson and David Strathairn. Giamatti plays an actor who feels bogged down by his participation in a production of Chekov’s play, Vanya.

The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls – doco about the Topp Twins – both lesbian, and who are one of New Zealand’s finest country and western acts . Fun, disarming and musically provocative.

My Tehran for Sale – Marzieh is a young female actress living in Tehran, and when the authorities ban her theatre work, like all young people in Iran, she is forced to lead a secret life the partake in her craft. She meets and Australian citizen who offers her a way out.

Amreeka – A drama centred on an immigrant single mother and her teenage son in small town in Illinois.

It airs 10pm Wednesday on ABC1.
