The 7 – 8PM Project

TEN is about to give The 7PM Project some extra airtime over summer.

7pm-projTEN will give The 7PM Project some extra airtime over summer.

The show will be getting an extra thirty minutes on Monday and Friday nights in December and January.

Tuesday – Thursday will remain at 30 minutes.

TEN is keen to get extra people to sample the show in the non-ratings season, and as lifestyles and schedules shift there is every chance it will pick up new eyeballs.

Hopefully it will allow for longer interviews too and maybe a few more risks.

So far the show is yet to have a big break-out moment on air, but alas they can’t really be manufactured in live telly. They come when you least expect it. It also hasn’t really had a big news day to chase yet.

The show has been guaranteed a place over summer and into 2010.

  1. I hope channel 10 execs read this blog, because there are heaps of great suggestions for them to take on board to improve the 7pm Project. David Mott would be an idiot (which he is not) if he ignored the advice. In my humble opinion, lose Dave hughes altogether, give Charlie some tips on interviewing ettiquette and continue to mine the great talent in panelists that Australia has (there are so many bloody panel shows on air). Indira, Todd Sampson, George Negus. The regular specialists in health and money work well. More famililarity but also rotation of regulars. It will be interesting to see what is thrown at it over summer.

  2. About time it was given an extra half-hour. It simply doesn’t work in the short format. Look at a similar show like The View. That goes for a full hour and manages to fit a good amount of content and discussion in. I would like to suggest the following that may help improve the show: longer guest interviews – please; can Dave Hughes – please; whilst you’re at it, get rid of Carrie as well, she”s terrible and Charlie doesn’t particularly thrill me, either, he is not anchor material.

  3. That’s Charlie’s image and it suits him being a bit of a nerdy guy.

But a bit of a shake up graphics wise and getting rid of Carrie couldn’t hurt.

  4. What have 10 got to lose by trialling this out from now whilst ratings are still on?

Makes sense if you ask me, its not like there is anything pressing on either Monday or Friday night that needs to go to air at 7:30pm.

    Start it from next week.

  5. Also – though I was dreaming, but this morning around 7.25 when I put on the TV it was still on Ten from last night – saw something called the 7AM project – a segmant in Toasted TV by the looks of it!

  6. Glad it will still be on. Also I believe Hughsey won’t be during summer which should lift the quality.

Another idea though would be to start at 6.30 and go to 7.30 the week after Neighbours finishes. The only issue would be the name of the show.

  7. I wanted to watch this show, but it is to similar to Rove (which I no longer watch unless there is a really good guest or H&A are on). The graphics are the same, the voice over from Carrie, Dave Hughes and such, its like watching Rove Jr.
    Here’s an idea,
Lose Carrie and Dave, or at least take Carrie off of the voice over role.
Get new non Rove like graphics,
    Longer interviews,
    Rotate guest panel, including host,
    New logo,
Live music on Friday nights to close the show
Charlie needs to lose the vests and tie.

  8. YAY! Thank you TEN! The 7PM Project is great, but a half-hour show with ads is way too short. Now they can finally have interviews with a good length to them, and cover a news story for a little longer.

  9. It’s make or break now. If the show cannot provide sufficent time with 60 mins for people to speak (or at least say something of note) then I doubt it will last long back at 30 mins in 2010.

  10. Like others I too think the interviews are way too short and the poor person being interviewed is often cut off out of nowhere. An hour show will hopefully allow for longer interviews.

  11. This is a sensible move if it’s being done as a test. If Neighbours is moved
to 6 pm, it should also be continued after the summer recess, from
    6.30 – 7.30 pm.

  12. I enjoy the show and think it has potential but like Kylie think it cuts stories and discussions off too quickly. Hopefully the 1 hour format will give it a chance to spend more time on things like The Panel used to do.

  13. I too enjoy the 7pm project.

The only criticism is the interviews are too short and the guests are cut off almost midway through a sentence! Hopefully the extra 30 mins will help.

    Keep at it guys!
