WIN boss may be forced to give testimony

Billionaire WIN boss Bruce Gordon lost a bid in the Federal Court to have key allegations made by his former managing director thrown out.

WINLOGO-LargerWIN Corporation’s billionaire owner Bruce Gordon lost a bid in the Federal Court yesterday to have key allegations made by former managing director David Butorac thrown out.

Butorac is suing WIN and Gordon after he was sacked from his $800,000 a year job in September.

The loss could mean Bermuda-based Gordon may be forced to attend the case in person to give oral testimony.

According to The Australian, the nature of the allegations made against Mr Gordon prompted the judge to say he wanted the evidence heard orally instead of via a written statement.

Butorac is the fourth executive to have headed up WIN Corporation in the seven years since long-time chief John Rushton, who is also the brother-in-law of Gordon, retired in mid-2002. His dismissal followed the unexpected termination of CFO Ross McCreath on September 1.

The matter returns to court in February.

  1. Bruce Gordon will have to drag himself away from his estate in Bermuda. Gordon owns this headland on Bermuda, which used to belong to Robert Stigwood.

  2. The inner workings of WIN Corp reminds me of Scientology sometimes, they’re so secretive it almost scares me. This court case could be WIN’s very own Mark Llewellyn ‘boning’ moment with David Butorac blowing open the doors to that place, letting the country’s media industry (in particular, their frienemies at the Nine Network) see just how they’re actually run. I’m looking forward to the possibly explosive information we may learn! Bruce, I want answers to many questions, like why does WIN use three different logos on-air, & what have you got against Nightline??? Answer me, Bruce. Answer me!
