Guy Pearce has been cast in the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, to be directed by Todd Haynes (Far From Heaven, Poison, Velvet Goldmine).
He joins Kate Winslet and Evan Rachel Wood in the small screen adaptation of James M. Cain’s classic noir novel, which was a feature film success for Joan Crawford.
The story set in Pasadena in the Great Depression centres on Mildred Pierce Beragon (Winslet), a wife who separates from her unemployed husband, Bert (Brian F. O’Byrne), and takes a job as a waitress while struggling to earn her daughter Veda’s (Wood) love.
Pearce will play Mildred’s lover, a wealthy playboy.

As a huge fan of the James Cain novel and the fantastic Crawford movie version, I was skeptical about this adaptaion. But the casting is all around fantastic and if they stick true to the book and not try to imitate the iconic movie, I think it will be a great success.
