TEN News Melbourne co-anchor Kapalos has signed a new three-year deal that she says will see her entrench the city as her permanent home.

TEN News Melbourne co-anchor Kapalos has signed a new three-year deal that she says will see her entrench the city as her permanent home.

“I really want to stay here for personal and professional reasons. It really feels like home. I have never really lived anywhere where I have felt so grounded and connected to the place,” she told the Herald Sun.

“This means the most, more than any other employment contract I have signed, because it sort of firms up my direction for the future.”

Four years ago she moved from Nine in  Sydney to read the news alongside Mal Walden, taking over from Jennifer Hansen. She began her career as a reporter for ABC Radio in 1994.

Joined by Steve Quartermain and Mike Larkan, TEN’s 5pm News continues to beat the opposition.

  1. ten news may not be the best news service in the country. but the thing they have got right is that they do not take themselves super serious and pretend to be something that they are not. there is no “Austraia’s Best”, “leading the way”, ‘we are the best rah rah rah.’
it just makes better viewing. and i think it really works for ten.

  2. The Ten News is fine, all except the weather. Why do we have to see photos taken by viewers, and hear Larkans weak jokes? That just wastes time. Then he races through the weather. All other channels just do wearter. Why cant 10?

  3. Brett (12:08pm),

I’ll give Network Ten credit for airing their news in time-slots other networks don’t bother with, like 9am weekdays & 5pm. But they’re not “by far the best new service on TV.” I just feel sorry for Mal with him still working there.

  4. Helen is a class act boasting intelligence, looks and one of the very best voices on Australian tv. It’s a shame she is not reading news on a network level.

  5. I’m glad for her. Although Mal Walden is a legend, Helen provides her own uniqueness to the partnership. The entire Melbourne Ten News team is great to watch.
